Allow for client nickname or preferred name
Many of my clients do not go by their birth names due to gender transition or they prefer one that was a family given nickname. Billing still needs to go under legal name, but quickly finding them here would be easier if I could have nickname/chosen name field to search by.

commentedI know that we have to add a client's "legal" name (aka what's on their insurance card), but it would be nice to ensure that all appointments, etc, that the client sees are their chosen name. I've had clients uncomfortable that the software continues to use their "dead name".

commentedNot just a gender transition issue. This would be helpful in identifying clients on TheraNest, as I often do not recognize a client's legal name because the client never uses it except for insurance purposes!

commentedI feel it would be beneficial to not only clients but providers as well if providers could customize a clients name for text reminders. For instance a clients name is Robert but he prefers to be called Bob, due to the fact Robert makes him think about bad things that have happened to him. Instead of the text reminder Saying Hello Robert this is ........ It would read Hello Bob this is

commentedI work with clients who have diverse gender identities. When will Theranest add a "Nickname" option so I can use preferred name for everything except billing for clients who have not changed their name with insurance? Theranest provides inclusive options for Gender - can Nonbinary be added? When clients select an inclusive option for gender, such as Transgender F-M, this then creates a billing issue as the claim is not populated with the gender on file with the client's insurance company - is there a way to create an option for Gender Identity and an option for Gender on File with Insurance Company for claims?

commentedWhat is the status of getting this update implemented? It looks like this post originated in 2014 and I know several therapists who want this change soon

commentedI work with a large number of transgender patients and need a place where I can indicate the chosen name of my patients and their pronouns. This is especially important as we have admin who sometimes make phone calls etc. to our patients. In addition, the gender fields allow male and female and transgender BUT this is in in line with insurance cards. So, when our patients use the Portal and change their "***" (this should be labeled gender identity) this causes problems with insurance coverage. Please separate this so it says *** listed on insurance card. And then have another demographic field for gender identity. I would happy to be contacted if you need additional support in creating this as I have a lot of competency in this area.

commentedPlease add client preferred name. I have many trans and gender non conforming clients and they are harmed by seeing their dead name. Theranest cannot be fullv functional for me with these clients, as I must avoid using certain functions in order to respect their preferred name and not cause harm where they should feel %100 safe and respected!

commentedThis is particularly important for clients who are transitioning to a different gender/name and have not yet updated their insurance provider of the change. We want to insure that the name on the insurance policy is what appears on the claim, vs. the client's new name that they prefer to be called. At the same time, it would be helpful to see the preferred name prominently on the screen when navigating their client profile in TheraNest. Thanks!

commentedWith the Transgender community, we need a space for preferred name and a way to check that preferred name comes up on schedules, emails etc while given name shows on insurance information.

commentedThis really is an issue with our clients as well, trying to find place to add it to the details and they can see it just makes the clients feel less then what they are. We really should add this small fix.

commentedThis would be ideal for transgender/gender nonconforming clients and/or cisgender clients who go by a name other than their legal name. The "nickname" can be used in client communication, scheduling functions, and can be added to their progress note in addition to their legal name. Legal name can then still be used for billing purposes.

commentedCurrently the name in Theranest has to be the same name as what is listed on a client's insurance card. If any other name is listed that claim will be denied. It would be great if there was another line on the demographics page called "preferred name" to go around this problem.

 commentedYou could:
Add an additional name field for their chosen name
 Have more gender options
List their preferred pronoun (add a field)

 commentedHi,
I have a number of Transgender clients who have not yet changed their name on the insurance paperwork. Because this can be a significant period between social transition and legal transition, I was hoping there could be a way of having the pt's name (especially in Therabook) be different than the name on the insurance...thus giving the opportunity to be respectful of the person's preferred name until a legal name change can be obtained. Thanks!

 commentedI voted for this one.
I had this in the prior software I used. Some clients don't go by their legal name.
