    Text field for gender, sexual orientation, race, marital status, and religion.
    I don't know how to resolve this with the insurance issues raised by others, but using drop-down lists for these with an "other" at the end will inevitably leave someone out and risks heightening a feeling of "being other." I'm in favor of open fields for these categories if there is a way to do so that doesn't interfere to greatly with insurance claims. Thanks!
